This Is Not a Government Office or Records Custodian. Chapel Hill Residents Directory is privately operated. We cannot retrieve or certify records, verify an address, or add or remove a person from a government index. Send those requests to the office that holds the record. Call 911 for an emergency. If someone is stalking or harassing you, contact local law enforcement.
Finding the Right Record
These routes can help identify the official source for common Chapel Hill record questions:
- An address or recorded owner: use the Chapel Hill street directory record trail
- An earlier household or printed directory: use the Chapel Hill city directory collections
- A careful one-person verification: follow the Chapel Hill resident lookup process
- The office behind a source: see Chapel Hill resident record offices
- A document not online: make a narrow request under the North Carolina Public Records Law, Chapter 132, to the correct custodian
For voter-registration records, the relevant local custodian is the Orange County Board of Elections, 208 S Cameron Street, Hillsborough, NC. The research lists 919-245-2350, vote@orangecountync.gov, and Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For county public-records requests outside that record type, use Orange County’s NextRequest route; the Town of Chapel Hill directs its own requests through the Town Clerk.
